Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – As of today, from June 30 to July 6, Cardinal Fernando Filoni, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, will be in the Democratic Republic of Congo for a pastoral visit that will focus on “The Church in Congo: since the II Vatican Council to present day. Evolution, development, analysis.”
The Cardinal arrives in Kinshasa today, and tomorrow morning, Sunday, July 1, he will preside at a Concelebrated Mass at the Cathedral Notre Dame du Congo, where all the Congolese Bishops, the Association of Major Superiors (ASUMA), the Union of Major Superiors ( USUMA), the Council of the lay Apostolate, the members of ecclesial movements will participate.
On Monday, July 2, the Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples will speak to the Bishops of the Episcopal Conference of Congo (CENCO) gathered for the plenary Assembly, then he will separately meet the Bishops of the various ecclesiastical provinces: Kinshasa, Mbandaka, Kisangani, Kananga, Lubumbashi, Bukavu.
In the afternoon, July 3 he will meet Congolese men and women religious, and on July 4, in the morning Cardinal Filoni will visit the Prime Minister, Head of Government, and the President of the Republic. In the afternoon we will visit the orphanage run by the nuns of Mother Teresa and Saint Joseph Hospital in Limete.
Thursday, July 5 will be dedicated to visiting the Diocese of Kisantu (Santa Rita Parish; literacy centers, pediatric center of Kimbondo; parish and college Mater Dei) and in the afternoon, in Kinshasa, a meeting with members of the National Committee of the Laity, and with representatives of the Committees of the Laity will take place.
On Friday, July 6 Cardinal Filoni will visit the Catholic University of Congo (UCC), then a Seminary of the Archdiocese of Kinshasa. In the afternoon he leaves for Rome. (SL)
